چکیده

Aim of study: Quercus variabilis is a sclerophyllous oak with strong resprouting capabilities and whose regeneration facilitated by the development stump shoots following disturbance. During secondary forest regeneration, fine roots are important organs relative to changes in stand characteristics. Here, we aimed provide novel insights into chemical composition variations seasonality root order hierarchy Q. at different periods regeneration.Area The located next Baxianshan National Reserve southern part Yanshan Mountains, Tianjin, China.Materials methods: Six plots were established stands either eight or 40 years for repeated sampling during growing season 2019. All classified branch order. first three orders collected analyse concentrations nonstructural carbohydrate, carbon, nitrogen.Main results: Short-term showed reduction soil moisture an increase temperature because lower canopy cover, compared long-term stands. Soluble sugar starch short-term than those stands, decreasing ratio both parameters was observed Less carbon greater nitrogen found which resulted weaker C/N values. Nonstructural carbohydrate stored more higher terminal presented sensitivity regeneration. Redundancy discriminate analysis demonstrated that affected positively cover negatively temperature.Research highlights: seasonal dynamics allocation reserves varied discrepancy between traits. onset may elevate risk death. Keywords: soluble sugar; starch; regeneration; order; ratio; redundancy analysis.

Mean age of carbon in fine roots from temperate forests and grasslands with different management

Fine roots are the most dynamic portion of a plant’s root system and a major source of soil organic matter. By altering plant species diversity and composition, soil conditions and nutrient availability, and consequently belowground allocation and dynamics of root carbon (C) inputs, land-use and management changes may influence organic C storage in terrestrial ecosystems. In three German region...

Notes on the biomass expansion factors of Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis forests in Korea

Biomass expansion factors, which convert timber volume (or dry weight) to biomass, are used for estimating the forest biomass and accounting for the carbon budget at a regional or national scale. We estimated the biomass conversion and expansion factors (BCEF), biomass expansion factors (BEF), root to shoot ratio (R), and ecosystem biomass expansion factor (EBEF) for Quercus mongolica Fisch. an...

Responses of leaf nitrogen and mobile carbohydrates in different Quercus species/provenances to moderate climate changes.

Global warming and shortage of water have been evidenced in the recent past and are predicted for the future. Climate change will inevitably have considerable impact on plant physiology, growth, productivity and forest ecosystem functions. The present study determined the effects of simulated daytime air warming (+1 to 1.5 °C during the growing season), drought (-40% and -57% of mean precipitat...

Does the age of fine root carbon indicate the age of fine roots in boreal forests?

To test the reliability of the radiocarbon method for determining root age, we analyzed fine roots (originating from the years 1985–1993) from ingrowth cores with known maximum root age (1–6 years old). For this purpose, three Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) stands were selected from boreal forests in Finland. We analyzed root C age by the radiocarbon method and compared it with the abovementi...
